Curious about the process? Below is a brief overview of the work included with an energy audit.
Audit Process
A team of two auditors will arrive at your home with some equipment. Throughout the 2-hour appointment, our auditors will assess your home’s accessible attic(s), crawlspace(s), and knee wall spaces, as well as collect data on your fridge, oven, and HVAC system. We will set up a blower door test and assess your doors, windows, recess lights, ducts, kitchen fans, bathroom fans, and any problem areas to check for air leakage. If you have pets, we recommend keeping them in a spare bedroom to prevent any unwanted escapes during the blower door test set-up. Please let our auditing team know where your pets are located in the home when they arrive.
Before running the blower door test, we will prep the home by double-checking that your windows are closed and each interior door is cracked open. The blower door test will be on for about 20 minutes. You are free to remain in the home during this test! After the blower door test, we will perform a combustion safety test, gas leak test, and CO test.
Towards the end of the audit, the lead auditor will discuss any findings and give recommendations, which will be sent in a detailed report within 48 hours. After you receive the report, you’ll get an estimate for the job and you can decide from there if you want to move forward with getting the work done. We do all of our recommended work in-house except for door, window, and HVAC system replacement. Thanks to the EmPOWER Maryland program, customers who live in Maryland are also eligible for up to 14 free LED light bulbs, smart power strips, pipe insulation, and up to $7,500 in rebates to go towards your insulation job!
